2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio vs 2021 Volvo XC60: Italian performance

Buying a compact luxury SUV isn't easy with all the options available on the market. The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is perhaps the most exclusive option and certainly the most powerful. It's a blast to drive, has all the luxury and refinement you want, and delivers a unique, Italian driving experience. That's how it stands out from rivals like the 2021 Volvo XC60.

The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a lot more powerful than the 2021 Volvo XC60

The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is powered by a standard 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 280 horsepower and 306 pound-feet of torque. This gives the 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio more power from the base model than its direct rivals including the Volvo XC60. As a matter of fact, the XC60 can't keep up with the Stelvio even if you opt for its more powerful engines. The Stelvio in its base model reaches 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and comes standard with all-wheel drive and an 8-speed automatic.

A 2.0-litre turbocharged engine also powers the 2021 Volvo XC60, but with just 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque it is lacking in both horsepower and torque compared to the Stelvio. It reaches 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds which is more than a second slower than the Stelvio. The second option in the 2021 Volvo XC60 lineup is a 316-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder that also has 295 pound-feet of torque. On paper this may seem like a more powerful engine than the one found in the Stelvio, but in reality, it is actually slower. It needs 6.1 seconds to reach 100 km/h.

There are also more powerful options in both lineups. The 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 that delivers 505 horsepower and powers the SUV to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds. The 2021 Volvo XC60 does have two T8 engine options that deliver 400 and 415 horsepower respectively, but they are no match for the mighty Quadrifoglio. The latter delivers a sound worthy of an Italian exotic, and performance to match.

There's more space in the 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio

With 1,600 litres of total cargo space, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio outshines the XC60 by about 200 litres while also offering more rear passenger space. If you want performance paired with versatility, the 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio is your best bet. Contact us today to learn more!
